SHEQ Officer
Location: Fermoy
Department: Safety, Health, Environmental & Quality (SHEQ)
About the Role
The successful candidate will work closely with management and operational teams to promote a strong culture of safety, environmental responsibility and continuous improvement while ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, standards and company procedures.
Key Areas of Operation
The role will provide exposure to:
- ADR: Road Tankers and Tank Containers
- Container Depot Operations
- Petroleum Industry – Aviation and Retail
- Waste Management
- Emergency Response
- Chemical Handling
- Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular SHEQ site inspections and workplace observations.
- Assist with the preparation and review of risk assessments and safe systems of work.
- Support management in maintaining compliance with relevant legislation, regulations and company procedures.
- Assist in maintaining SHEQ performance reports, records and key performance indicators.
- Assist with accident, incident and near-miss investigations and follow-up actions.
- Monitor and promote adherence to company SHEQ standards and procedures.
- Participate in internal and external audits and assist with the implementation of corrective actions.
- Monitor PPE requirements, availability and usage across operational areas.
- Assist with monitoring and reporting the company’s carbon footprint and environmental performance.
- Support and deliver SHEQ training and awareness initiatives.
- Participate in emergency response exercises and preparedness activities.
- Identify and report safety, environmental, quality and operational risks, concerns and opportunities for improvement.
- Coordinate and support company-wide Health & Safety Committee activities.
- Maintain accurate SHEQ documentation and records.
- Promote a positive safety and quality culture throughout the organisation.
- Carry out other SHEQ and ad-hoc duties as required by management.
Knowledge & Compliance
The successful candidate will have knowledge and/or experience of relevant Irish health and safety legislation, including the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 and associated General Application Regulations.
Knowledge or experience in any of the following areas would be a distinct advantage:
- Hazardous chemical awareness
- ADR
- COMAH / Seveso regulations
- Auditing
- TPED
- Emergency and incident response
- Transport and logistics operations
Quality & Environmental Systems
Experience with recognised management systems and standards would be advantageous, particularly:
- ISO 9001 – Quality Management
- ISO 14001 – Environmental Management
- ISO 22000 – Food Safety Management
Previous experience participating in or conducting audits is also desirable.

- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with fluency in English essential.
Skills & Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- A Certificate, Diploma or Degree in Health & Safety, SHEQ or a related discipline, or 5+ years of relevant experience in a SHEQ/Health & Safety role.
- Previous experience working with health and safety legislation and compliance requirements.
- Previous experience with auditing and/or management systems.
- Experience with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and/or ISO 22000 is desirable.
- Strong written and spoken English.
- Experience in emergency or incident response would be an advantage.
- Previous experience in the transport and logistics industry would be a distinct advantage.
- Experience within hazardous transport, petroleum, waste management, chemical handling or related industries would be highly beneficial.
